Some big commitment moves (i.e. strong attacks) or moves where the character should be vulnerable (i.e. recovery moves landing lag on stage, Kragg holding rock, Kragg side b endlag) should have a state where they can’t be floorhugged, like moves with punish counter recovery in fighting games. This opens up more flexibility in punishing these moves without having to use a spike, grab or strong attack to punish them, which depending on the character, currently may have limited options with low returns to punish these moves that are meant to be punishable.

This would fix everything I don’t like about floorhug

Just let me hit someone who swings big shit, please

I’ve said something like this for a while.
The change to disable floorhugging in the endlag of a grab was a good one. Grabs beat floorhugging, so you can’t floorhug while grabbing. Apply the same logic to strong moves and potentially others.
You could make the general logic: disable floorhugging in the endlag of moves that explicitly beat floorhugging.
You have an interesting system there. With some polish it could be come a full light hit heavy hit defense system. It’s so close already.

It’s never going to happen. Floorhugging is perfect, as is the input buffer, and so is everything else about the game. It’s perfectly balanced.
Fun is one of those “incidental” things.

@Professorx417 That’s a good way to stop it from feeling like a bunch of messy, bespoke exceptions. So it would be most strongs and anything with a spike hitbox?

Your reward for punishing a “big move” is already there - it’s the fact that the move takes longer to recover and you have more time for a better punish that is possibly a spike, or something that tumbles / pops up

this change would make the game better but after seeing how the game could feel without FH and how little balance changes to moves actually are needed i am done beating around the bush:
FH is a horrible mechanic and it is especially bad in this game. in melee it can be tollerated but its still BS there, too.
But in this game it is such a bad mechanic thats been implemented with so little thought, i have lost all faith in these devs.
The game could have a playerbase 2-3 times as big if FH never made it to the release build. But instead of listening to the majority they chose to listen to the melee elitists and they are now seeing the results of this: constant layoffs and thus a shrinking team with a shrinking roadmap and a shrinking player base. you reap what you sow, i guess.

@Zoolz8l I really didn’t want to engage with you on this board but I have to say this.
Having to layoff a portion of your team is a really shitty thing. Shitty for the people having to decide who loses their job, shitty for the people who lost their job. Trying to twist this heartbreaking circumstance into a quippy little told-ya-so in a weak attempt to push your agenda is an incredibly nasty, petty thing to do. You’re constantly disrespecting the devs who work fucking hard to bring us this game, but this crosses so many lines.

@Zoolz8l I’ve also told you this before. You can dislike floorhugging but you don’t have to be a jerk about it. It completely and utterly undermines our side. People end up talking about how crappy your attitude is instead of floorhugging, like what’s happening RIGHT NOW.
HOW can you be SO hyperbolic after they gave us the damn modifiers? We have been given a LOT and you’re STILL this salty? Come on. Show at least a little respect or at least a little gratitude. Floorhugging sucks but your attitude about it sucks even more somehow.

@Noshu Hyena @Professorx417
I am beeing this harsh exactly because of the layoffs. The people in charge kept making the wrong decisions despite pretty clear community feedback since the very first beta weekend and this all lead to this hearbreaking situation where people who had nothing to do with those decisions lost their jobs.
you can sympathize with the people who lost their jobs while critizing the ones making the wrong calls especially if those people are still in the company.
it just has to be spoken out: FH was a big mistake that hurt the game, the community and the studio big time. If we sugar coat it, its not helping either.
