Getting Into A Match Is Way Too Cumbersome#347

I

Just going to list a bunch of problems I have with the process of getting into an online match.

  1. Requeue after every match: keep me in the queue, I’ll exit if I want to stop.

  2. Reselect character every match: an unnecessary step. Characters are picked blind in the first match, so we should just be queuing with a set character to remove a whole screen.

  3. Choose skin and color every match: You really need to be able to set a default skin and color. I can’t believe this hasn’t been added.

  4. Reenter training mode after every match, having to reselect, character, training dummy and character and stage: Training while queuing is functionally useless. It takes longer to get your settings done then you actually get to use the training mode.

  5. Auto-accepting: If a match is found it shouldn’t auto-accept. I should be able to see the opponents connect settings at least before accepting. The other big thing is, if I’m practicing and getting close to figuring something out, I don’t want to be pulled away. Of all the issues, this one matters the least, but it’s the way it works in other fighting games for a reason.

I get that this is a small team, but we’re nearly 2 years post release and the fact that it’s still like this is mind blowing to me. It’s just a complete time waste and, in the case of skins, there is a negative impact on your main monetization method.

Why would I buy skins if it’s just going to make the process of picking my character even longer? I basically only play the default color because I can’t be bothered even though I’d like to have a main color. I’ll never buy a skin no matter how much I like it till this is fixed.

It takes maybe 10 seconds max to do all of this

There is no world that’s true, you’re not getting back into training mode during matching making with the same settings in under 10 seconds. And that’s only one of the steps listed.

But even if it was are you saying you’d be upset if they made the process better? You like having to repick your settings over and over and over?

you are 100% right, that this all needs to be streamlined especially since less setup times means people are back in to queue faster which will improve MM quality if there is more fluctuation. there is just one problem: we would need char based rank to streamline those things and the devs did not come around yet.

I agree that character based rank would be nice too, but I can see that it presents a problem for the devs, with players being able to switch characters after matches. I think you could still select the character prior to matchmaking and keep the ranking as it is now, if that’s what’s holding them back.

I was picturing:
select rank queue -> select character -> enter training mode -> find match -> match ends -> re-enter queue and return to training mode

I think making entering training mode the default while queueing would be better to encourage people to warm up / practice between matches.

An optional bonus thing I’ve seen games recently doing is setting the CPU dummy to your last opponent’s character so you can lab out solutions to problems you noticed last match.
